Dead Penny is more than a label. Founded in 2007 and working alongside Squirrel Records, Dead Penny's first release was the debut album '6ft in Love' by the audio-visual shoegaze band Insect Guide.
The album received much critical acclaim and a precedent was soon set for the label to continue to find exciting and interesting artists in any form. This branching out of Dead Penny saw the opening of Museum Records, a final resting place for lost recordings and musical curiosities. Designed to release songs that would otherwise be forgotten, Museum is proving very popular breathing new life into hidden projects!
The newest DP musical signing is the post punk band Vacant Kiss fronted by Suzy Blu, accelerating non-aligned, wiry pop songs, off kilter and precise.
With the imminent release of the new VK single and the debut album (a vicious, sneering burst of post-punk energy), 2012 promises to be a very exciting year for Dead Penny!
So, let your new host Dead Penny, lead you through a dark world of artists, musicians, writers, people and places we love and admire. If you're (un)lucky enough he may even corner you and extract your Dead Penny Top 10!
